Morning people.
A trip to the Autocross and seeing a gentleman doing pretty well in a 75 1.8 in C-Stock has my interest in the 914 project renewed. (I have been a bit side tracked with my truck) Since I would like to run it legally in stock class, I have obviously reconsidered my Web Cam 172 and will run a stock grind. Question: it appears that Pelican has both Genuine and Web Cam stock camshafts, is there any advantage to either from a lifespan, quality or accuracy / blueprint of grind stand point? TIA

I'll take a web anyday........Seen too many 20,000 mile OEM cams.
I very, very seldon recommend staying with a 100%stock cam, even for an FI application.

The specs of Webcam's replacement for the OEM cam are different from the OEM cam's specs. If I'm not mistaken, the Webcam numbers are:
Cam Specs at 0.050 in. lift Intake Lift at Valve: 9.97 mm Exhaust Lift at Valve: 9.34 mm IVO (BTDC): -3.0 IVC (ABDC): 33.0 EVO (BBDC): 31.0 EVC(ATDC): -5.0 Alfred |

That's bad for stock class, I'll have to get the rule book out, I seem to remember some thing about "normally accepted service replacement" Not that any one would protest a cam unless I won every race, but I'd like to do it legal because I will know if it isn't.
![]() What are the specs on the OEM cam?

Nobody knows the lift values for the stock cam but the timing events (as given in the Haynes manual) are:
IVO (BTDC): 12 IVC (ABDC): 42 EVO (BBDC): 43 EVC(ATDC): 4 Alfred |

I just personally saw a "3-lobed" factory cam yesterday. Dunno if there was a bad manufacturing run lately or what, but apparently some of the cam lobes are being "self-machined" in very low mile fresh engines.

In every car you run against there will be as much cam in the engine as they can get away with. It was already said here that no one knows exactly what the specs are on the stock cam, so how are they going to guage yours? With FI, I would have as much duration that works w/o the overlap that messes with the FI and call it "stock." WebCam is the leader in producing this type of camshaft. Or, you can have Elgin grind one for you to any spec you want.

I don't plan to run anything but the local events any way and I don't see it outrunning all of the Miata hoard, and I don't even care if I ever win an Event. Maybe I'll just build it like I want and run it in whatever calss it falls. You do have a point about the not knowing factory specs, surely ther must be a ruling on it somewhere? Anyone know what Mod class they run in?
