I have a 914, ready in every way except for electrical (see "1974 w/carbs wiring diagram" post for the background). I have all of the connections accounted for. There is only one problem, the car does not have a voltage regulator. Here is the question:
I will need to patch a regulator into the system. My understanding is that DF is my source from the alternator. When the voltage is "good" it is passed along to D+. When the voltage is "bad" it is shorted to D- (or ground). Is this correct? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! I will FINALLY have this thing running once I figure out this last problem!!!!!

There are three wires that come off the alternator. (And a fourth big fat one that goes to the starter--that's the output of the alternator.)
Plug the regulator into the three-wire connector on the end of the alternator wiring harness. Splice into the red wire and connect that to the blue wire going to the alternator light. That should get the alternator to charge. --DD
