VW Engine?????

I was thinking of buying a 914,
I heard you can put a VW type 4 engine in this car , Is it possible?
Also if so what would I need to buy in addition.

Regards,
Andrew.

Andrew,

If you buy a stock 4-cylinder 914 it will already come with a Type 4 VW engine. That's what they came with from the factory.

Hi,

I recomend to do a search on this topic... there are plenty of postings that discuss swaping VW bus or vanagon engines into 914's

Thinking about buying a 914 is a great idea...Judging from your question you have a significant amount of "thinking" ahead. This is a good thing. It is very easy to make an uneducated 914 purchase that will be very expensive and frustrating. More good news... you are @ the right place to gain the knowledge and support required to make an intelligent and "fun" purchase...keep the qestions coming...and read everything you can lay your eyes on...

I have a 66 912 now and I am learning alot the hard way.
I dont know what it is about these 4 cylinders but I am hooked.
Thanks again,

I had a 66 912, loved that car...that engine just ran and ran and ran! If you are getting familiar with the 912 engine you'll feel right at home working on a 914 engine.

Never buy a 914 without taking off the rocker panels. You can be looking at a seamingly beautiful car that is on its way to bending in half. Ask many of us on this site how we know this. Good Luck, Pete
