Adjusted my valves the other night and in the morning I got to town and I could smell oil! I guess the valve cover was cocked a bit so I drove it back home. Lost about 1/2 quart of oil onto the heat exchangers. Now all I have is smell inside the car. When will it go away? I have put about 100 miles on it since. Will it burn off or do I need to clean up the heat exchangers? Help, it stinks in there!

You will need to mop out the free liquid on the top of the exchanger, between the two exhaust pipes one each. There is a little "reservoir" on top of the exchanger on each side that the oil gathers in. Until this is remedied, vapors will cotinue.

I don't think I've ever been in a 914 that you couldn't smell a little oil in.

Ahhhhhhhh - burnt hydrocarbons, that ol' Detroit Perfume
Tyrannus Rex ReserveNow available from your local retailer in quarts, gallons and barrels. Stockup now before the big rush - they ain't making dinosaurs anymore. Use carb cleaner - the fumes will get you high and you won't notice the oil

Simple Green and a coin operated car wash works good, lasts long time.

Sometimes it takes removing the heat exchangers and dipping them into a vat of carb cleaner. Then rinse with water. Another option is to take them off and have then steam cleaned at parts place

I kinda like the smell, too. But I have had this problem to the point that blue smoke came out the geater vents. It wasn't very cool looking, and the windshield filmed up really quickly.

Au de Porsche. Mine just lets a drop or two hit the heat exchanger on the right side every couple of miles. When I start it after a few days of sitting I have to let it burn off for a couple of minutes before I get in or suck fumes. I replaced the valve cover gasket twice and it still does it.
