True or False: Red konis are adjustable.
True or False: Red konis are gas shocks. True or False: Red konis will improve the handling over a basically new set of stock boge shocks? I'm considering an upgrade. Any input? Thanks. Steve |

True - they are "collapse to adjust" - yea, ya gotta remove them.
False - they are oil filled True - you have adjustment of compression/rebound to suit your butt feeling. The above is for the "old" Koni Reds.

Well Steve, he just might have a line on a set of "good to go" used ones and even Koni will rebuild them if you want to pay the price. I also believe there are other entities that can rebuild them too.

Never had Red Koni on a 914, but my experiance with a BMW is:
They are adjustable for rebound only, Koni says that the adjustment is to compensate for wear only. They are oil only no gas. A set of new BOGE turbo gas are superior to them. Just my $.02

if you go to the Koni website (google it), they have directions there......... as to rebuilding Koni shocks, it is not cheap, I had a set and ended up buying new Koni Yellows (adjustable with the turn of knob) for a few dollars more than it would have cost for the rebuilt Koni reds (including shipping)

I'll probably go with the Bilsteins. I remember reading somewhere that Bilsteins were an option on the 914 when new.

So, am I adjusting for height?? Excuse my ignorance, I've been dying to ask these questions about the Koni reds I have on the rear.
Thanks, Rod
