Best 914 come back lines...

The funny thing is that the 914-4 is called a volkswagon by all those who think they are being cute and funny and think you've never heard it before... and you just wish it was legal to shuve a handful of doggie poo in there mouth.

The history of all the 914's is that Porsche designed it, Karmann stamped them out, sent to VW, and then Porsche bought the chassis from VW for the 6, and VW kept the ones for the 4's. Heres the funny thing, Lots of 356's and 911's were stamped out by Karmann, so why don't those chassis get smubbed?

So whats the best come back line, using knowledge of the cars?

I have several, but they all involve thought, which usuall dooms me to no inlightenment, so i usually say "Really, its a volkswagon?! WOW!" quickly fallowed with, " I argued with the DMV for hours, but they said it was a Porsche! Go figure, Porsche designs it, but its who makes it is the owner?... Interesting." As i scratch my head. "Senerio, your clothing is designed by Tommy hillfiger, but is made in china... This makes you a chinamen????"

At which i mean no offence to the chiness people, but my foe with ill wits needs to be shut up.

Any others, please do tell!

I say put a VW crest on the front trunk lid and when they tell you that your car is just a VW, point to the crest and say "I know".

Ya, I've dont that before. Just agree, make them feel like they know everything, which usually pisses them off too.

But for those times when you have time and nothing better to do than just talk about things that have no relavance on life. Like watching Jerry Springer, lots of people do that.

Or you could just stop caring whether it's a Porsche or a VW and just enjoy the bloody thing. I love my 914. I'd still love it if it said "Yugo" on the hood. When people call it a VW, I just chuckle and say, "Yeah, it even has a bus engine."

I'm involved in driving and enjoying the car. I'm quite content to let the rest of y'all worry about the old VW or Porsche debate; for me, it's a non-issue.

if i get defensive; il say :
did you know that the porsche 924 has an audi engine? no one calls them Audi's. the 356/912 engine is most similar to a volkswagen engine, no one calls them vw's. (then ill esplain to them the joint venture between vw and porsche)
if im boreed:
your mother!

I usually throw in the fact that the front suspension can be easily be swapped with a 911's and that they share the same tranny. A guy walked up to me tonite and said he absolutely loves these things and could I try to find him one. His parting words were that he would rather have one than a Ferrari. I da no bout al dat. Pete

VW...Porsche, you still can't catch it in the corners.

Yeah but that was a sponsorship thing, that happens all over,
I am a bike fan, and used to race a bit, same thing happened years back when Greg Lemond, Huffy was sponsoring the team, and the bikes said Huffy, but every bike for a pro racer is custom made and hand fitted to the rider.

I tell people it cost 3x less than their minivan, gets 30 miles per gallon, and - http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?threadid=172421.

Then I shrug my shoulders. Most dudes don't know what to say after that - Porsche, VW, Yugo, who cares, that's enough to shut 'em up

What I always tell people who make the VW comment is this: "Mom was a VW bus and Dad was a 911. I get the performance of a Porsche at the cost of a VW."

That's also why Betty and I ran "Son of a Bus Racing" in SCCA for years!

So when some ignorant jerk makes the VW comment, just tell him that your car is a real "son of a bus".

Now this is a white trash way to handle this, but I submit for you folly gents:

I was driving in my 914 one night in Beverly Hills. CA not MI. Anyways, These 2 doushbags on really nice Ducatis pulled up behind me. One of the guys, obviously a connoisseur, says, "Check out that cool little Porsche." The other guy, (who we'll call "dumb@ss numero uno") says, " It's a Volkswagen. It was made by VW, it's got a VW engine, and it's slow like a VW. Hell, it's even ugly like a VW."

Now keep in mind I was having a bad day, (just gotten dumped) and I don't condone this sort of behavior to anyone. But I just snapped. So, I got out of my P.O.S. VW, and walked back to the bikers.

Me: What did you say?

Dumb@ss numero uno: Huh?

Me: About my car you F%$#ng twit!?!? You gotta problem with a G%@d@mn VW?!?!

Dumb@ss numero uno: I...

Me: F%$@ you!

Then I shoved him and his bike to the ground, and drove through the back roads of Beverly Hills back to my apartment, cursing my trailer park upbringing and irrational behavior along the way.

After that though, no one ever said anything else. Nor did I. It was almost as if I was wearing a badge that said, "Don't F23k with me and my rusty@ss little imbred VW, cause I might kick your @ss!"

Like I said, I don't recommend behaving this way, and it's a wonder I didn't get locked up, or shot. Thank God I'm married now, and behave a little better!!! Thank you wife!

You could just say you don't care?

Heh... You could buy a 914 per year! The annual maintenance budget of a 308 is pretty close to what a lot of 914s cost...

I paid less for my 'new' '76 2.0 914 (almost fresh engine w/Euro p/l; new tan interior and new paint) than I was quoted to replace the timing cover bearing on my 308!

You, most certainly, hands down, are DA MAN! Unbelieveable - you probably always got picked first for dodgeball and football games too.
