You know what would be useful?

Have you all ever seen that the inner cv joint on later 911s and I think 944s have a cover on them so that you don’t get grease everywhere when doing a motor drop? I am taking my motor and transmission out it seems like after every time I run the 914 and this would really be a helpful feature. I am getting too familiar with these motor and tranny swaps and don’t wish to repack/regrease these joints every time. Has anyone seen or make these for a 914-4 style cv joint?

Clean the outside first, then place a gallon sized zip lock back on the end. Wrap with tape or zip tie to keep tight , problem solved.

I would think you could get a rubber pipe cap in the plumbing dept of your local hardware store, with a hose clamp on it so you could keep it airtight, and you wouldn't have to worry about it ripping or leaking if you have to leave it out overnight.

I used to use the gallon size zip lock bags but found that the grease will ooze through them. I now use aluminum foil. I tear off a large sheet and then crunch it over the end of the CV joint. No rubber bands required. The foil will stay in place on its own. And the best part is that the grease doesn't ooze through the foil.

Two or three plastic grocery bags and a rubber band. Or double-bag it with the ziploc bags making sure the wife doesn't catch you stealing them.
