Relay under passanger seat
I found this relay under the passanger seat. It seems to be a replacement part in that it is an Audi part number. The relay is about 1.5 inch cube with 214 marked on the top. Audi part number is 443 951 253K. Other number is SHO 89 9512. Any idea what the relay acts on? Is it necessary?
Thanks, L. McC |

If the car is a 74 to 76 it is the safety belt warning buzzer relay. Somewhere in this forum you could find a way to diconnected it, that is if you want to.

I believe the electrical is a 72.
Is the disconnect instruction in the forum? L. McC |

don't remember the year(s), but i think 1973ish used the/a relay to prevent starting the car if a seat was occupied and the seat belt was not secured...

74s did, with some carryover to 75s.
I believe in the earlier cars, that relay is there to work the seatbelt light. And there is a "door ajar" buzzer that may be there or may be on top of the fuse panel. --DD

My car is a 1974 & under the passenger seat there are "2" relays. One is for the door ajar buzzer & the other is for the starter lockout if the seat belts are not fastened.
I recently parted out a 1970 car & it had a relay under the passenger seat but there was only one (I'm assuming it was for the door ajar buzzer). The factory issued a bulleton for de-activating the starter lockout (I'm assuming this was issued after many problems). To de-activate, two of the wires have to be spliced together - I'm not sure exactly which two but someone on this board will know. Vern |

It's the heavy gauge yellow wires that need to be jumpered. One comes from the ignition switch and the other goes out to the starter solenoid.
