Thanks Andy. It's your trouble, not your problem.
Front page says we have no rules, call it a 'community', and then you can't be human.. Great! Let's just release all the technical notes, that we can harvest there, delete the club, and put it out in PDF form. The club could just be www.914club.com/914_tech.pdf, instead of a fund raising society, a humanitarian organization, a porn dump, a religious indoctrination outlet, or a place where you can SHARE TIME WITH PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE LOVE OF THE SAME CAR YOU DO! F'ed up man, you don't have to own a 914 to be a member, but you'd better have something useful for everyone else about 914s, or else. Lame. I am super-pissed. M

Wow...this is dejavous all over again! I used to moderate a large message board serving the sailboat racing community and the exact same thing happened. As membership grew and the population became more diverse, these problems arose. I think it is just normal evolution of on-line communities. People get to know each other, personalities emerge, friendships and rivalries form, resentments fester...just like real life. That's both the beauty and the hell of it. Having BTDT I have nothing but admiration and respect (and some sympathy) for the administration......it's a frustrating and often thankless job. The fact is, in any group of over a few hundred, there are going to be a lot of people who can't have it their way....some will make a lot of noise and piss everyone else off, some will learn to live with it, some will try to change things constructively, and some will just go away. Moderators and administrators need to become a bit dictatorial in deciding "how it will be", and if we don't like it we should be able to muster the maturity to accept it or leave. I have to bite my tongue while saying this, as I am an anarchist at heart, but I don't think it is the way to a long lasting on-line community. BTW...the board I ran died after three years of glorious unrestrained free speech...I sure would hate to see that happen to us.

Makes me wish I would have read the OT Rant thread instead of posting picture from the 914 Red Rocks Classic Event that I dove my 914 to.
Sheesh.... my bad for posting On Topic.

People talk about how this is a "garage full of buddies and anything goes". Well no, because its a damn big garage. We got some people that come to the garage to work on thier cars and others who just want to hang out and tell us about what they had for lunch. The "garage" needs a line painted on the floor and those that have no 914 content need to stand on the other side of it. You can come in and have a beer but stand out of the way while we work on our cars.
Once again, I am fine with OT posts. I do it myself. But lable it. And when a post gets OT, drop it or get back on topic. If this wasn't a problem we would be talking about it now.

Please remeber just how that BB was founded people.I like the community aspect. Have certain threads gone to far? Probably. Almost everything can be brought down to a very simple and intelligent phrase: "You cannot have freedom without responsibility." I simply do not want to lose my freedom over the irresponsible action of a few or the moral tidings of a few others. Peri-*******-od. I AM NOT REPRESENTED BY THE FAR RIGHT OR THE FAR LEFT. Who here has "never" participated in an OT thread? Who here is throwing rocks? JP... What conclusion did I arive at? I don't object to your (fuched-up) opinions. Push your ******* button, just don't make me push one. Don't buy a gun if you don't want to... just don't make it so I can't. Don't eat meat if your a vegetarian... just don't make my menu for me. It seems as though you object to my opinions. I don't object to opinions JP. I object to "actions" that have limited my freedoms. If you don't want OT... you push the button. We're all happy.

So now, I dont get to view those pictures of the fun times that myself and others had in their 914's because people post crap that they know will piss other people off.

And with a wimper, another really great thing spins into the wall.
I loved the 914club because it was a place where I met new friends and had my belief in the existance of good and interesting people restored. At least for a while. (Miles, we've never met personally, but I gotta tell ya, you and a few others made me laugh until I cried more times than I can count, and I always though of you as a major asset to the site.) I saw people who wouldn't recognize each other if they were sharing a seat on the bus, show true compassion, support and more in a way that is nearly extinct in this world. Most of the time, those acts didn't have a damn thing to do with a car. Now, that community has had the life sucked right out of it by the same self-centered dog crap that makes rest of the world so gray. A little dramatic I suppose, but true. It was probably inevitable, but it genuinely makes me sad. It feels like a little window I could look out for a few minutes each day and see fun, just got bricked over.

To the few who ruined it for the rest of us (you know who you are) - thanks a lot guys.
I try to go onto the site last night to ask a question, search for some tech info while I am out in the garage WORKING ON MY CAR, and I can't, because of a few selfish, immature, irresponsible people. Again, thanks a lot, and do me a favor, don't come back to 914club.

Andy -enjoy your time.... you have truly a thankless job.
At the same time I want to tell you that I have no issue with the board. The only time I have gotten a little mifted was when in the middle of an on topic thread it disintegrates into porn. I enjoy the opposite sex just as much as anyone else. But that is not the place for it. The avatars and Mikey add a little spice. Even Mikey knows there is a line. No way to really police this and thats fine. But Decide what YOU want and stand your ground. I got your back whichever way you go. M |

Dear Admin's,
I will support whatever decisions you make. Without your thankless effort, I think we should ALL recognize that this list would not exist without you. It seems there's some growing up that would benefit some of the participants. I would personally like to thank you for your hard work and patience. AndyS |

I like that the site is down, but i hope it gets back up soon b/c i would hate for this site to turn into the 914 club. this is th one place i feel i can come and get help with my car w/o any of the other BS that goes along with the 914club. no *****in' here (unless it's about stromberg), no gratuitous nudity shots, no religion or politics, just 914 stuff.
Now, do i think the 914club is a GREAT site? you betcha! but it has gotten a little out of hand. the site is not a PORN site. the off topic stuff is great, but the porn needs to stay on the porn sites, the religion needs to stay in church, the politics in washington, and the Whine needs to stay in napa. STOP WHINING! if you don't like something , don't look at it. and quit crying to the teacher. |

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Originally posted by Eric_Shea This entire thread is pretty much OT for the PP board. I'm surprised a hard core Pelicanite hasn't whined to Wayne about it and gotten it removed. We should all be banned if we don't contribute here. I like the "community" approach with a mixture of tech. I'll spend most of my time on the 914club. I like "tech only" camel toes are for heathens. I'll spend my time on the PP board. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quote:
I did requote what Eric Shea said because I think its something that none of us have noticed yet. The fact that we have stayed on this ONE THREAD on the PP board, shows that we DO INDEED have Respect for others. Otherwise we would be flaunting the chat on this tread all over this board. Which in turn would get us locked out of here. So.........if we apply this same respect on the 914club.com, then maybe we wouldn't end up here so much. Ehhhhh.......
