Headlight position

I just finished putting my headlight buckets back in after my run in with Bambi's father.

Only problem I have is that they don't retract all the way. Fully retracted they still stick up about 1" above the hood. I'm manually turning the headlight motors (which operate smoothly) to open and close them.

Is there some special adjustment somewhere to "zero" the headlamp position? I know there is a bolt that acts as a stop for the open position, but what about closed?

There are some micro-switches in the linkage from the motor to the headlight that tell the motor to stop. It sounds like you may have to change the position of those.

Thanks Dave. Are these obvious when I take the motor covers off?

Also I can't quite picture how this will help me. Manually turning the motors they go through the whole cycle. At no time in the cycle do the headlights fully retract. They get down to about 1" above flush with the hood, then start to open again.

Sorry, I misunderstood the problem. The microswitches won't help what you are describing.

I can't think of anything offhand that would help. Perhaps you can reposition the whole mechanism?

I haven't had a chance to spend enough time playing with it, but that's been my guess too. However, the amount of freeplay you have with where the hinges mount isn't much and I just don't think it is enough to get them down all the way. I had to play a bit with it to make everything align and fit without banging into the hood or the small lower cover pieces when it opened and closed.

It seems like I have the headlight buckets positioned correctly, just that the stroke on the drive arm from the motor isn't short enough at it's shortest point of the cycle. At the longest point (headlights open)everthing lines up great and they hit the adjustable stops exactly like they did orignially. I'll just keep playing I guess.
