Eratic idle on '76 2.0
I have a '70 914 with a '76 2.0 engine I am trying to get running well. I have an issue where the idle goes back and forth between 1500 - 2500 rpm. After 3-4 minutes the engine will die. Can usually re-start. I have added hose clamps the manifold pipes and re-installed the throttle body with some gasket sealer. I also went through and tested all fuel injection components for the correct resistances. All seem in order.
I am going to re-check the timing again this week but I believe it should be on. I have downloaded lots of articles and all say vacuum leaks or too advanced timing for high idle but not sure on what would cause the idle to hunt and the engine to die after a warm up? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Shane

The idle mix is too lean so the engine "hunts". Look for other vacuum leaks using a can of carb cleaner or starting fluid. Spray a small amount at a injector or etc...
My bet is its got a leak somewhere.......maybe injector seals?
