1.8L Help

What can I do to a 1.8L to get a little more HP out of it. I am planing on rebuding the engine this winter and would like some Ideas. Are there any Cam/Carb combo's that work well? Ignition upgrades? Big bore kits, are they worth it?

Thanks

Ah yes, the quest for more HP. The question is how much HP, and how much do you want to spend.

From my experience, I started with a 1.8, then went 2.0, now 3.0 SC motor. If it is HP you want, I would go for a 6 conversion. 914's with 3.0 and bigger motors [200+ HP] are alot of fun to drive

If I was going to stay with 4 cyl, I would start with a 2.0 liter. Then, figure out how much HP you want. Some type IV motors can generate 200 + HP.

If you want to stay with a 1.8, the Fuel Injection system is a limiting factor. Carbs are great, but require tuning. Aftermarket FI systems are great, but expensive. Also, I think that they make a 1.9 liter piston and jug set

If you are looking for lots of reliable HP, I would go for a 6 conversion.

Give us the amount of HP you want and what you are looking to spend.

Oh and if you increase the HP a bunch, you might want to upgrade the brakes, the suspension etc. This quest of more HP has a way of snowballing and eating savings accounts, but is sure is fun

Just my $0.015 worth

Well I would like a better pull from the line. I don't do any racing just the fun weekend trips on the back roads. I have about $1000 to put into the engine. If that is way to low to do anything the I can allways hold off another year.

I have FI now so carbs are need .
