I’m not sure you’ll ever get an accurate answer to that question. That is, other than “less than 4,075" (which I believe is the correct total number of ’76’s made).
But, Steve Stromberg recently asked this group “How many 914 do you have?”. Reading through those posts may give you an idea of how many ‘76’s are around here. Tim ’73 914 2.0L-imbo waiting parts. |

I have the twelfth to the last 76 914 up here in Seattle. I have "talked" to a guy who has the third to the last 76 in New York.
There seems to be quite a few of them around from watching the posts and webpages. Geoff ------------------ 76 914 2.0L |

Check out http://www.dgi.net/914/tech/technical.html, it spells a lot of it out.

Number 461 will soon be back on the road (Are you as impressed with 461 as 3rd to last!)
OOPS! I missed a zero, it is 4061, making it 14th to last? I am still as impressed with it as 461, although it makes me wonder what the mood was like when my car was built in the last days of the factory. All I know from the PO is that she lived in Dallas, TX. I'll have to check out the sticker tag for more details!(I always thought it was cool to have the original sticker, I dont know what I would do with it besides stick it in an album. Maybe you guys can sympathize with me an this heavy bumper thing. I dont care about the weight because I don't race. I actually like the look of the bumpers but they are starting to show their age, and I'm not forking out the cash for a replacement. Any comments from you 76ers? Well, my '76 is chassis number 159 which means it might even have some leftover 1975 parts on it! Fortunately, the rubber bumpers are still in very good shape (thanks to many years of being kept out of the sun). If you just want to have them shiny black again, try "Forever Black". Its available online and looks very much like black leather dye. Works well on the targa top as well. Check some former posts for more info on ordering.

I like the look myself of the big black bumpers. I have also been rear-ended twice at low speed with no damage. It is a street car when it's nice out so the bumpers are a plus with all the crummy drivers in Seattle. My car has been a Eastern Washington car most of its life.
