I dropped the engine in my car today and noticed that the motor mount bar was attached to what I believe were the old style 1.70 rubber motor mounts in the body? Also, the rubber motor mounts between the mount bar and the engine were cracked in half! My question, what do I replaced the rubber motor mounts currently between the mount bar and the car body with? Or really, how was a 2.0L mounted in a car from the factory? I guess the broken motor mounts would really explain why it felt like the engine was "flexing" when I shifted.

On all of the cars with side-shift transmissions, the motor mount bar is attached to the chassis with solid metal mounts. They're more or less pieces of U-channel with three holes in it--two for the smaller bolts that hold the mount onto the body, one for the large bolt that holds the bar onto the mount.
If you have a side-shifter, use the side-shifter mount bar and hardware, including the solid outer and rubber inner mounts. If you have a tail-shifter, use the tail-shifter bar and hardware--rubber outer and solid inner mounts. --DD |
