Wondering if anyone has seen a passive ignition device that breaks the connection between the key ignition and the starter unless a special "electronic" key is in place?
I have a similar device in one of my other cars, and appears to dealer installed. It has a small Printed Circuit Board key that is required to close the ignition circuits and allow the car to start. Its mounted on the lower part of the dash, and is very handy. You simply pull out the second key and slip it in your pocket. I prefer this to the battery-type devices I've seen for the 914. Any ideas? Thanks, ------------------ Gerard 74-914 2.0L 3D914 rodrigos6@juno.com |

The only device similar to this that I have seen in a 914 is the 1974 "Infamous Seat Belt Interlock". This device would break the connection between the ignition switch and the starter motor, unless the driver's seatbelt was fastened and, if it detected someone in the passenger's seat, the passenger's belt had to be fastened as well.
This system usually makes itself known as intermittent starting problems because the relay or wires got wet and corroded. You can fit a simple switch in there if you like. Not as cool and high-tech as a printed circuit board, but just as effective. --DD ------------------ Pelican Parts 914 Tech Support A few pics of my car: http://www.pelicanparts.com/gallery/Dave_Darling |

Thanks Dave,
That's a good idea. I'll take a look at that possibility - especially since someone has disconnected all that stuff on the car, but all the wiring appears to be intact. Regards, Gerard |
