Talking Carb Issue on 914

My neighbor just purchased a 914 with carbs . He has been driving it a week and all of a sudden it started running poorly . A low rpm miss . I know nothing about carbs but he pulled the little ( jets ? ) four of them on the side of the carbs to clean them . He noticed when he pulled them one was missing an 0 ring . Would this be enough to make it run poorly as described . Any input would be appreciated

The o-ring maybe stuck in the body of the carb which happens sometimes. Not a problem really, the jet will just unscrew from the body and the o-ring stays with the carb. If you didn't have an o-ring at all, you'd have gas dripping out.

Idle jets can still be plugged. or a piece of junk stuck in the idle circuit. pull the jet spray some carb cleaner in it and watch whereit comes out of in the progression ports and the idle needle valve.

Idle Jets are cleaned

It now idles perefectly however it is running a bit rough . It is back firing on deceleration and it back fires just a second or so after the ignition is shut off . Not sure if that is mechanical or electrical . Thanks
