I need to ship a transaxle. Does anyone know about how much one weighs? I thought I had the weight but cannot find it. Also, what is the best way to ship, truck line or UPS?

transaxles are a funny shape to ship, you'll probably have to go with a freight carrier and put the thing on a crate/box, cost will run about $150, remember to drain the fluid

A 915 is about 150lbs with the crate. 901s are slightly lighter.
UPS will take them but it may get stopped before delivery (been there done that) UPS may make the sender come get the thing at the last station. There is a limit of what one driver can lift ;-) Try forward-air. Take my advice and mark the crate twice with the both addresses. I had a buddy get a 911 trans via ups...4 months late. The label just fell off. -Rich |

I've seen a listing of the weights of the different Porsche transmissions. The 901 was 75 lbs, the 915 was 125 lbs, and the G-50 was 175 lbs. The list was from Anderson and was either in Panorama or Excellence, so it seems like a pretty trustworthy source.
Sounds like about 25 lbs worth of crate in Rich's case. --DD
