The one closest to the rear, IIRC, is for the rear defroster. I think the 2nd from the front is for the fuel pump.
has the car been in storage long? Might want to check the inline fuel filters and pump to make sure they are in working order. Check here for more information Brad's '70 914 2.0L

yes it sat 8 years i crimp the return line and it fire right up i looked on brad's web site and read about eather the check valve in the pump itself or to much fuel going back to the fuel tank so crimping the line was my first thought the pump and relay seem to work fine changed the fuel filter no problem with fuel from the tank
mostly wount start whem warm

Is the car carbed (I assumed it was) or injected? I hope you are not using 8 year old gas
How are the lines? new? newish? 35+ years old?

FI and no on the 8 year old gas we put fresh gas in it new filter lines look good there is no problem with fuel delivery to the pump the car sat in dry storage so it did stay dry all those years
it runs so good other than not starting when warm

I am not sure if this is common knowledge or not but, one thing that I recently found out that may help is...When the key is turned all the way to start cranking the engine, the fuel pump also turns on and once the car starts and the key is put in to the ON position, the air control sensor controls the fuel pump.
It kinda sounds like that might be your issue. Can you confirm that the fuel pump is working when you are cranking the engine?
