OK now I'm very confused.
I called Weber directly and asked them, "what carb do you recommend" 44 idf was the reply. I have called 3 different VW shops, each one says the 40 is #$@% shile the 44 will work forever. Kenny |
Are the 3 VW shops familiar with a stock 1.7 type IV motor or "hot" Type I VW motors?
I too had dual 40's on my 2056 and stock 1.7 (ok, they were the same carbs ; ) ) and worked great in both applications. As someone mentioned, I cant imagine gettin 44's to work well with a stock cam and otherwise stock 1.7. |
The VW guys are thinking drag race and nice daily driver.
Yes a 44 will never be the limiting factor as far as power and RPM go. Like I said it will go lke stink above 5,000 RPM. But it will run rich on the idle circuit that goes up to 3000 RPM. I had 40 IDF's on my 2.0L and it lit the tires off the line ran to 7000 RPM and was docile at idle and sooth as butter everywhere. 29 MPG with a 86b cam. |
