Question Lowest seating position?

What seat will give me the lowest seat position in the car: the Momo/Cobra type or the Kirkey Intermediate aluminum shell? The Momo and Cobra are FIA approved, the Kirkey is not so I would have to fabricate a seatback support.

I have a 20 degree lay-back Kirkey with contoured foam bottom in my Sentra now. It is very comfortable, and the lay-back helps keep the top of my helmet well below the top of the cage. I am concerned with the headroom in the 914, especially if I try to keep the top of the cage no higher than the targa.

If it matters, I am 5' 8", but with only 29" inseam. Leg room is certainly no issue in the 914, but head room could be.

The aluminum seat will get you lowest due to thinner bottom. You will have to make your own mounts since factory ones will hit the box section under the seat. You'll probably have to remove the metal bracket used for adjusting the stock seat angle as I did when I mounted my seat. I removed everything, put in the seat them climbed in and moved around till it felt good and have someone measure it's position. I made bottom mount brackets from 1.5 x 0.25 steel and used 6 bolts on the seat and then bolted the brackets to the floor with a plate under the pan for strength. I made the back brace and it goes from the back to the firewall and is likewise reenforced. Good luck.

Run the top of the roll bar hoop an inch or two above the targa bar. The underside of the roof has a "step" where it sits on the targa bar, so there is room to go upward and still get the roof on. I have seen this in most 914 race cars with bars/cages.

That should give you a little bit of extra room. Not sure on your other questions.

Check out alum race seats from ultrashieldrace.com. I installed these seats into my 914. Available in 10 or 20 degrees.

The seats were mounted onto the slide rails from the factory seats.

Also check out the cages MFR by Safety Devices.

Jim,

I just looked at the site. Which model seat did you install?
