Early 1.7 914 popping on decel
Ok... so I just want to make sure I'm not crazy here. I posted up on 914world.com (but i think I'm having dns problems or they are down, can't resolve the site right now) about this issue - on deceleration i get a popping.
I've done the following: - Sealed my exhaust leaks - Installed new exchanger seals - Adjusted the valves back down to spec (.006") - Adjusted the timing (which was WAY off) It's not as bad.... and really only seems to pop now once it's at very low rpms. Most the time at higher rpms (3500rpm etc..) it won't pop immediately off decel. Once the rpms go down some then it'll give a very light pop. It's not a bang, boom, or a big backfire, just little pops. Before when the timing was very advanced it would give a nice big boom, spit through the intake, you name it, it acted up. The early 1.7 Does not have a decel valve. I have Bursch exhaust. Is this normal for this car? My other concern is - do i have anything to worry about at all? Will these pops hurt the car? I'm fairly new to aircooled engines, so these behaviors and what have you are new to me. Another thing I was told is that it could be running a bit too lean?
