914 with 205 50 15 tires
Hello to all,
I have slight tire rub on my back quarter panel with my current rear tire set up. It makes me nervous because the car has just been painted. The rear tires are 205 55 15. The question is, do 50 series tires on 15 inch rims start to look a bit on the "too small" side? If anybody has 205 50 15's on their car, could you please post a picture of it? Thanks, Pete |

![]() I figured you would probably ask, so I felt compelled to show it off. It has been a long journey. Pete |

I have them on my car and I love them. No rubbing and great grip. They look a little small, I think 16 or 17 inch rims would fill out the fenders a bit more..

I have 205/50/15 on the rears, passenger side plenty of clearance but drivers side has some rub. Seems all cars are just slightly different.

On my '76 2.0 I ran 205-50-15s and had lots of room on BOTH sides. On my '70 I ran 205-50s and had comparatively less room, but still no rubbing.
What brand wheels are you running? Factory wheels with that side tires shouldn't rub at all, but it is dependent on Ride height and alignment. A 205-55 would be marginally taller. Have you already rolled your fender lips? (this is a popular way to gain another 1/2" of clearance. Here's a link to my photobucket site.. should have some pics to help you see better... I used to like running 195-60-15s but for me as they stoped making "R" comps in 60 series, there wasn't really much choice. Recall that STOCK sizes are closer to 165 width!

Here is my '73 on 205/50's. Not sure if the offset is the same with the 5-lugs.

Beautiful cars guys ! I have 7 inch, fake, five bolt Fuchs in the back. I have rolled the fenders prior to painting and thought that the fifties would be the slight difference I need. Perhaps, but not an easy thing to test. Thanks, Pete

I just picked up a 74 2.0 and it has 195/50-15's they look a bit low profile for my taste. He hs trimmed the rear fender lips about 10mm. I would have rolled them but whats done is done. I will probably roll them a bit more to hide where it was trimmed and gain some space too.
I think I will be upping the tire size to a 60 series. Currently the speedo is off by almost 10mph at 70 !
