Question Martini 914?

Hi All -
Been in lurk mode for quite a bit - new job/long hours.

I am in the process of doing some touch up on the car to get it ready for the pending spring/summer DE's and concour. I came across a pic of the 935 Martini car on the internet. I showed it to the guy who is doing the paint touch up and he said his graphic guy could duplicate all of the striping and Martini logo's for $200.
What do you think?

For those of you that dont know, my car is a 916 look (bumpers/flairs/all white/7 & 8" fuchs) 2.0 (you can see it on my gallery page) that I don't drive nearly enough. I built it to autocross, do DE's, and to look nice as well.

Thanks for the input...

Here is a black and white. The stripe is three colors: dark blue, royal blue and the center stripe is red. I would put a 16" stripe the entire length of the car (over the top), and a 5"stripe down the side.

Question depends

how often will this car be driven on the road?.. there's a guy down in SD that has his 911 painted Gulf colors.. and when i saw it in the pictures, i thought it looked great.. and still DOES look great.. BUT, i saw it one time when i was driving from Orange County down to SD, and the car just looked awful on the road.. stuck out like a sore thumb.. i *had* plans of maybe painting my 914 with the new Gulf color scheme (basically darker blue/orange colors).. but after seeing the 911, i've decided to stick with solid colors.. some things should be left to track cars..

my $0.02

Hi Jeff!
I have put 5000 miles on this car in 7 years. Done a few SCCA events, one "tour" with the local 914 guys (about 60 miles as I recall) I do three car shows a year, and multiple grocery trips on nice weekends. As per the attached picture, it is already "stickered" - I did that prior to a local vintage race, but was unable to attend at the last minute. It has looked that way now for almost two years. So, it's really not on the street or track very much.

paint or no

it's a personal preference.. but after seeing your car.. i'd say you can probably get away with it, with the flares clipped on and all.. the paint scheme'd probably go well with it..

my own car.. will be fully stripped, no side window, full cage with nascar type side intrusion protection.. lexan rear window.. probably no passenger seat.. but i plan to keep it registered.. :P and street legal..

but no race paint.. just my own preference..

Thumbs up

Yes, do it! Too many people are going the Gulf colors, I think the Martini colors would look great on your car.

Me, I'm going for the understated Le Mans Privateer look. I'll bring my car back to it's original and install the number lights next to white gumballs. I may go for a red Mobil Pegasis too. Again all this will be on a flaired and caged 914/6 done all in period style. But that Martini look does sound interesting...

And $200 for Martini stripes...Go for it.....Great price.

I've done those before and will be doing it again shortly for a gentleman named Martini and his bill will be substantially higher.

:P

Hi Laura!

yeah!.. you got my name right this time.. hehe.. (someone told me to never let an opportunity to tease a pretty lady, especially if that pretty lady's husband happens to own a porsche shop!)

the blue 914 is back on the road!.. it's still got plenty of problems, but it runs!.. and i can drive it around while i work on that MR2.. :\

i'll hit you up for some graphics when the *real* 914 gets done.. i don't think any amount of graphics will help this current 914.. :P

how's that 911?.. if mark still wants help, i'm still willing to spend nights at the shop, even MORE time, now that i've got a running car again..
