Alternator removal - PLEASE help.
Hello All,
I have purchased an new alternator from Pelican Parts for my '73 1.7L 914. I have the three pronged wire from the box where the regulator sits, and the red wire that attaches to the starter, pulled and under the car attached to the alternator. The two bolts that hold the alternator in place are out. The problem I am having now, is that while the old alternator is loose, I can not wedge it out to remove it from the car. I have tried to follow the directions on this site (Thank you very much) for replaceing the alternator, by removing all the screws that hold in the front left engine tin in place. But while I have ALL the crews out, the piece just will not come out. It appears to have a white "Caulk-like" substance holding it to the tin piece to the right (Toward passenger side). Is there a way to remove more pieces of engine tin so that I can get the alternator out? I do not have the ability or facilities to drop the engine to replace the alternator. Any advise you can give me would be VERY welcome. Thank you, Keith |

Yes, the tin pieces were factory "sealed" for air tightness in some places so you have to break apart the seal, which can be quite hard sometimes, to get the tin piece out.
