What to use ? A po of my 914 put some kind of sponge on the firewall a mistake it fell a part got in the fan and threw it out of balance. Ive removed it now wonder what to but up.The noise is not my only(i like it a little loud) consern but the heat as well as the sponge did not like it. And has anyone used rino spray liner in their engine bays

I was always curious to try some of that Dynamat or something like it. Does anyone know what the factory piece costs/how to get one? Has anyone done anything creative like putting some heat reflecting dynamat on the inside, behind the backpad? Might look clean and work just as well...
Nathan

Heh,heh......another pic opportunity. Don't yous guys ever learn?
The stuff shows up reasonably well in this shot. Didn't work worth spit as a sound deadener, tho.....just ask Keith or Craig. Another plan down the tubes.

James and Nathan,
Try a search for sound absorbtion, sound absorbers, dynamat, etc. This has been discussed several times in the past with some good suggestions. Mike |

Ditto on redbeard's reply, there was a big discussion on this a few months ago...
BTW, you can get Dynamat from Summit Racing, www.summitracing.com , though it would be a good idea to check out the dynamat website first, then call summit, cuz they don't sell a lot of this stuff and are easily confused. Hey, JP! Is your engine bay still that clean?

In addition to Dynamat, try:
http://www.mcmaster.com/ and http://www.b-quiet.com/ It looks like b-quiet is cheaper than Dynamat (price wise) and McMaster-Carr is way way cheaper. I picked up a bunch of stuff from them, including 5 gallons of sound deadening paint. Uhhh - Mechanical work first - then the exterior - then the interior - and if ya gots any hair left, then worry about the sound. James I'm on step 3 of my 12 Step Porsche program. What happends when I'm done?

What?? I can't hear a thing after riding in JP's 2.7. I dont think 6 feet of concrete would deaden the sound of that beast. On the plus side it sure looked nice and neat. His picture does not do it any justice.
Looking forward to the next ride JP Keith

There is no substitute, the sound of a Porsche engine in full song. JP we can do it in stereo now.
I found a 74 914-6 here in Seattle, bought it. I will tell you more and show you some pics when I get back. Craig C. Laughlin CAMP 914-6 Seattle Branch |

Dynamat is killer stuff; just ask any serious stereo freak. However, there are a couple less expensive options. One is Rammat, and another is B-quiet. Rammat is very good, the other stuff I'm not to sure about. If you want more info on either, check out the forums at www.elitecaraudio.com as quite a few of the guys there have used them. Also they guy who sells Rammat hangs out there. I think his name is Rick. Good luck...

I'll have to be more careful about passing out rides in ulf.....or post a message on the dash. "WARNING: Sitting here may cause depletion of your retirement fund" Bring it to the AX Sunday. Even iff'n you don't want to run it, you can worry some of them 9elebens. JPIII

Hey JP, think Craig qualifies for the Old Farts Six Club? Very select group. Mine should be making noise in a couple of weeks.

Which is more important, the old or the fart part.....

Hey Craig congrats!!! I can't wait to check it out. Post some pics or somethin. Man mo power needed!!! I didn't go for a ride with JP for that very reason. I wouldn't say I'm content with my 2.0 but I'm not ready to be disgusted with it either. I don't want to drive a 6 till I got the money to buy it! I got my conversion project on the side of the house & unfortunately it will be a long project. Unless someone wants to donate a nice 2.7 or 3.0. I promise to put it to good use
