Just bought 75 914 with complete new brake job including master cylinder. I want to upgrade to bigger brakes and do not know how to tell if my new MC is 17mm or 19mm. Understand that most recent replacements are in fact 19mm. Is there some external number or measurement?

How big of brakes are you planning to install?
For Stock 914 brakes, 17mm is good. For most 911 brakes, 19mm will be fine For other bigger brake setups, consider the 23mm MC. If my memory is working, a 17 or 19 may be stamped on the MC.

Planning to use 911 calipers. Thanks for the hint.

The master cylinders I've seen have either "17" or "19" prominently cast onto the side of the main tube.
