Driver side window glass

Merry Christmas! It appears that the drivers side window glass in my '72 is actually the same part as the passenger side. Living in Las Vegas I rarely have the top on or windows up. As I was taking a cliser look after installing new weatherstrip, I noticed the driver side glass is slightly bowed outward. The emblem and writing on the glass is reversed. Any thoughts on where I can get the correct glass? Thanks for the help!

yes, there shouold be different right and left glass. (there is also an early and late style glass, corresponding with the change in the window winder mechanism)

for a huge selection of new/used parts try High Performance House, they usually ship within a day of order. Rich the owner has tons of parts, and will have the correct glass for your car. call them at 650 364-6234 redwood city calif.

make sure you have the correct year glass, if at one time you door(s) where changed, you might have different style doors than the body's year would suggested (I had a 914 one door early type, one door late type) The doors are interchangable, but you would want them to match, as the window channel looks different.

Also, the early winders use a cable type mechanism, while the later ones use a scissor lift.

Early style mechanism: Pelican Parts: Porsche 914 Early Window Regulator

Late style mechanism: Pelican Parts: Porsche 914 Late Door Window Regulator

Thanks for the digrams Dave. It'll be much easier to figure out which door I have and glass I'll need. One other question, is replacing the glass very difficult? Thanks again for the help!

its pretty easy, the haynes manual has some good diagrams showing how it goes together. The alignment is always fun.

I am just surprised anyone was able to get the wrong glass to even partially work. the curve of the window guides may have been altered to make it work.

Can't wait to see what's been modified inside the door when I take it apart. Thanks again for the info!
