Correct 914 carpet for 6

I have a 71 914/6 that I have restored. I bought a carpet kit from a guy in Georgia that fits like a cheap suit and now I am going to buy one that is the correct perlon with the correct edging and heel pad. Please provide input. Thanks

1971 914-6's didn't come with perlon type carpet. One of the nice changes for the 71 MY was an upgrade to a nice pile type carpet.

Also paying close attention, my 1970 -6 also needs a new carpet.

Oh, one more thing, for the 71 MY, the passenger side floor piece also has a heel pad.

A few months ago, George at Auto Atlanta still had one last complete factory NOS 1971 carpet set under wraps. AMHIK......."I saw it" If you call them, only talk to George because he is very particular who purchases the ultra rare, NLA factory parts. Particular in this case meaning, he would only sell it to someone who has a 1971 914-6 leaning toward concours. And I tend to agree that a concours restoration or beyond excellent 914-6 certainly deserves the last NOS carpet set far more then any average 1971 driver.

Here is a photo of my 1971 914-6 with the correct carpet. And of course the correct (only used in 1971) naugahyde vinyl.

Wow - looks very nice.

I am afraid to call AA to check on their price for the carpet set for my Six as I fear it will be crazy $$$$$$$$. I called and asked about a used front panel for my car and it was $850 plus shipping....... I have no idea how good or bad it was but thought $850 was kind of high. I can't begin to imagine what a NOS carpet set would go for that was possibly one of the last remaining sets in existence.

Your interior shot is my goal.....

Yes, it will certainly be very expensive, but what would you expect to pay for a complete factory NOS carpet set for a 356? We now have to accept the fact that the 914-6 is highly desirable, collectible and very rare and with so many being restored using aftermarket parts, I say, "Get the NOS stuff while you still can". To me, every aftermarket carpet I've seen in a 914 stands out like a sore thumb. But that's just me. It's very difficult being an anal purist.
