Mounting 5-point seatbelts

Like most 914's my stock seatbelts just won't retract anymore. Instead of fixing them or replacing them I wan't to mount 5-point seatbelts in the car. I know pelican sells a harness bar, but is there any other way to mount these belts safely? Anyone make their own mounts?

ok, the easiest way, and most securely, and out of the way mount(i think) is to bolt the shoulder harnesses to the firewall, behind the back pade, using either normal bolts, or eye bolts..and then just bolt the laps in the normal place as the seat belt, and the crouch belt to the floor...good luck

I used the harness bar. Probably not the absolute best way to mount it (IMHO), but I didn't want to drill extra holes in the car. I used eyebolts into the stock lap belt holes--they did have to be shortened a bit.

The sub strap (crotch belt) should go down THROUGH the seat itself--that means you have to cut holes. In PCA Zone 7, you will not pass tech (next year) if the sub strap goes forward around the seat. If you make it properly tight, the buckle tilts top toward you and can act as a very blunt knife if you hit something hard.

I went with six-point harnesses, and ran the dual sub strap to the lap belt mounting points.

If and when I put a rollbar in, it will interfere with the harness bar. At that point I won't be worrying about more holes in the car and I will mount the harnesses to the firewall. Remember to use REALLY BIG washers (3" diameter MINIMUM!) to help spread the load out.

funny you should ask, just did it last week. i made the brackets for attaching to all five points out of some 1/8" steel. at all points, i also added a nut plate behind the sheet metal (floor pan & firewall). I wanted to be sure that there was no way for the anchor point to pull through.
Happy to send some sketches if interested.
