5 lug conversion piss off
Chaps my backside when something doesnt go together.
A customer brought me all his five lug conversion parts on Sat. for his cherry 73 2.0 along with a set of Turbo tie rods. I started this afternoon around 2pm and finished it around 10pm this evening. Casually assembling the rear and I start spinning the rotor around trying to line up one of the holes to put the set screw in, I notice (hum) maybe I have the rotor clocked wrong. So.. I change it around 5 different ways. NO GO. GRRRGRRR half ass machine shop didnt place the studs correctly for the ONE screw hole to line up. This is what happens when you get parts from a source that doesnt know how to set this crap up. It is a major pain to set the vent clearance with a rotor that flops around. You have to stack up a set of washers with lug nuts on them to keep the rotor from moving around. This sounds petty, but when you do these as often as I do, buying the correct parts from known sources PAYS off big time. B Just when I thought I was wise by having customers buy there own parts.... it comes back and bites me. |

Did you try swaping the rotor left to right ?
Sometimes they drill the holes different for each side.... I had the same problem but just swapped to the other side and it lined up.

For venting, I have an old set of lug nuts that I cut the end off of.
That lets me thread them all the way down, to hold the rotor straight. Doug |

Yeah. I swapped them (first thing I tried) lol
I have steel lug nuts that I can use to tighten the rotors down, but the studs still have a shank and will need 10-12 washers to take up the slack. I got over it. The problem is: I should have had the person buy them from my source so I know they are drilled correctly. B |
