Car height for engine install?
Hope to start building engine dolly for motor test fit soon so I can measure up for engine wiring loom to be built by Pelican member timmy2,he has my old 2.0 loom I sent to him as a guide but the "6" conversion is a differant set-up so careful measuring is required as he has no knowledge of these looms and has no pattern to go off.
I intent to raise the rear of the car, from what I have read the 911 requires 13 - 14 inches dependant on induction system,I intend to fit less carbs so could be lower??? Anyone help me here with a starting height, thanks.

It really depends on what the engine is sitting on to get it under the car, doesn't it? If you put it on a rolling floor jack, the bottom of the engine is already 4" above the floor. Put it on the jack or dolly and measure it from the floor.
You need to jack the car up so it is level. Don't just jack up the rear of the car. Jack the entire car up. Jack it up the amount you measured for the engine on the jack/dolly. I used large wooden platforms 18" x 6" under my jack stands. Get some 18" long 4 x4's and nail some plywood on both sides of the 4 x 4's. You'll use them again some day. Once the engine is under the car, lower the car over the engine by removing the wood under the jack stands. Take you time and work slow. Watch the car as you are jacking it and be aware of the weight being transfered. Lastly raise the engine up into the car.

You can just put the back of the car up. You have to compensate for that by fiddling the angle of the drivetrain when you go to put it back in, but I've always done it with just the tail of the car up in the air.
Oh, and the answer is: The height required is always two inches higher than the highest position of your jack-stands... ![]() --DD
