where can I find a good/new 901 1st gear slider?
I know there are boxes of used ones around, being re-cycled but mostly no good. I've done that.
Does anyone sell these - that aren't obscenely expensive? Many thanks, Gavin |

Pop over to 914World and send Dr. Evil (Mike) a message. He rebuilds our 901's and has a lot of parts. He is a great guy. Good luck. Michael

If you want new parts, you gotta pay. "Expensive" is generally the going rate for brand-new 901 first gear sets.
Mike is a good guy, but much of what he has available is used. The difference is that he will put an educated eye to the parts and see if they're still in good shape or not. --DD

Thanks very much for the pointers. I've spent so much rebuilding my 901 [for a 2L vintage racer] over the years, I think I could have found someone to put Hewland guts inside for less. Rules don't allow a 915, but with modest power I don't need one anyway. And I like the low weight of a 901.

I get where you're coming from. If you go with Hewland guts, can you change over to dog-ring engagement, so you can do the clutchless upshifting? That was a treat when I got to drive the formula car a few years back.
