Should my tranny leak when......
...its standing up, should all the fluid be on the floor (like it already is

By standing up, I assume you mean input shaft down. Sitting on its bell housing.
Just behind the bell housing is the tranny vent (kind of a hexagonal thing with a hole in it that screws into the tranny case.) As you can assume, it is venting. Specifically its fluid onto floor. Check to see if that is the source.

Also, the output shaft seal gets hard and leak on these 30 yr old cars. Better put that on your list of parts to get.

If all seals and gaskets are in perfect condition the only way for oil to get out is from the vent. Sounds like you have some issues with your input shaft seal as previously posted.
