The problem is that the forum software is 20 years old. It was written long before that term even existed.

And yes, we're having our 20th anniversary this December ...

Check out Okta. https://www.okta.com/
We use Okta at Zoom and so does most of my customers. We also used them when I was at Cisco Systems until they bought DUO.

budk 11-22-2022 07:50 AM

maybe we should allow Andy time to restore the site before recommending changes or asking for updates.

We didn't use it when I worked at Cisco. That was about a decade ago.

I already suggested DUO to Andy for the multi-factor authentication. And I have experience with it from my work. Once the site is back up, we will look at stuff like that.

I was at Cisco from 2005-2020. I was a Collaboration CSE there. Now i'm at Zoom doing the same thing. Cisco bought DUO before I left and we all had to use it. From a user standpoint, DUO and Okta work the same, but I have only played with the SCIM and SAML mapping features with Okta.

Would you mind setting up (or pointing me to) a separate thread about it?

I too struggle to fathom what gain or pleasure these hacker arseholes derive from taking down sites like this.

Once restored, I would be happy to help out should want to migrate to a more current platform like Xenforo. I migrated the Amphicar forums to Xenforo several years ago. Knock on wood. I now have it decently secure against the arseholes and, more importantly, configured so that I have multiple paths ro restore quickly in event of an incident like this.

As others have stated. Big thanks to Andy. Most people have no clue regarding the effort and commitment involved in running a forum.

iankarr 11-23-2022 08:15 AM

I wonder who the 4 other people besides SirAndy are that were banished. If we knew who had a beef with those 5 people, that might lead us to the perp.

Thanks, Andy, as always for your amazing contributions. We appreciate you!

Thanks Andy. This issue with the hacker is the electronic version of the Termites in your foundation framing. If it ain't one thing it's two! As soon as the World site is back up I'll post the 2023 Rt66 Time & Location.

Andy, just wished to add my thanks for yr hardwork and efforts both routinely running the forum, but also trying to get it back up again after this attack.

I know this isn't yr job and I just wished to say a huge thank you for yr efforts and those of the supporting admins.

Yup - but I was thinking it's not in neutral - it's just like most of our 914's...doing some time on jack stands. I'm confident it'll be back even better after Sir Andy fixes the website hell hole!

Emo993 11-24-2022 06:54 AM

When you get this all done Sir Andy, you need to send all us members a bill for your service. Mark

We’ll said! I echo the sentiments and thanks!

Thank you Andy!

I am thankful to all that have made 914world so painful to be without!

SirAndy 11-24-2022 12:01 PM

Quick update, i'm down to ~2000 threads that are still orphaned.

Luckily, most of those belong into the Garage which means i'll be able to sort those out pretty quickly.

I'm guessing i'll be left with about 100 threads that still need to find a home again by the end of the day.
SmileWavy

SirAndy 11-24-2022 01:32 PM

Getting closer, 1188 topics left to sort out.

I'm going to take a break for a bit, been at it since 7:30am.

Wow. I am impressed. You make a big impact and are the greatest in this world and any other world. So to speak.

bkrantz 11-24-2022 04:55 PM

Thanks again, Andy.

tygaboy 11-25-2022 08:06 AM

I'm embarrassed to say that since the World has been down, I suddenly found I had an "extra" 2+ hours a day! ;)

And it's been said, but it's worth repeating:

Time for a nice donation to support 914 World and our "always above and beyond" admins! You guys are the best.

jhynesrockmtn 11-25-2022 09:36 AM

I had updated my paid status just a few days before this happened. Time to double down. Thanks Andy! As a member of several forums, including this one for a long time, I appreciate 914world.com for the overall vibe, dedication of long time 914 owners/gurus and lack of political BS. It is a great place.

DC_neun_vierzeh 11-25-2022 02:11 PM

Andy, you rock. I've spend $0 on Black Friday (wallet is a tad light from trans and motor rebuild), but I'm going to donate what I can to 914 World because it has saved me so much $ on troubleshooting and needed parts from fellow 914 enthusiasts. It's such an incredible community with passionate and kind members. I've also been enjoying this Pelican Forum as well - good to have 2 places to visit now : )

This outage appears to be reverse psychology, forcing us to go work on our cars. And it appears to be working!

Goes along with the addiction, has anyone besides me been getting the shakes?

djpateman 11-27-2022 04:49 AM

You bet. Constantly checking to see if it is up. Coming up to 20 years on Pelican, and about the same for 914Club / 914World. Of course, the addiction goes back to my first 914 in 1975.

Cairo94507 11-27-2022 06:32 AM

Yay. Thanks Andy.

If 914World is down, does it give you rust balls?

:p

buddyv 11-27-2022 02:38 PM

Like my good friend Chris "Tygaboy" said the other day...... "Too much time on my hands now that I'm not checking in on the World site!"...... any longer and I will have to start doing those chores that I have been putting off.....

SirAndy 11-27-2022 04:25 PM

We're back online, thank you Pelican Parts for the your hospitality!

Freezin914 11-27-2022 05:18 PM
