F1 Boston Jan 29th
Winter gathering,
I can get either track 1 or track 2 for 1/2 hour on the 29th of January, so that is the plan thus far. Too keep costs down, I'll have them hold part of the bar area for us instead of the restaurant or function room. Most meals and appetizers can be served there with out the 5 star bill. For those interested in racing, we can rent the whole track for ourselves. Racing: I will need to pay for the track in advance (sooner than later). I can not front the $850 on my own, so I'll require payment up front from attendees as well. If I can get all 18 positions filled, your fee will only be $48. I was figuring on a 7:00 or 8:00 race time with racers needing to be at F1 one hour prior. If I don't get enough people wanting to race or willing to pay in advance, then track times will be on a first come first served basis. Please email me (djm914-6@attbi.com) if you want to race and if you're willing to pay up front or not. Remember, the more racers we have (up to 18) the cheaper it gets. Hope so see a lot of you there, Dave Edit: forgot the website: www.f1boston.com

Update:
I've had a few people contact me to say that they are interested in the racing part of this gathering but not enough to warrant renting the track itself yet. So, if you'll be joining us on Wednesday the 29th and want to race in an all Porsche owner race, please contact me by Wednesday January 15th. If I have enough people interested, I'll need the money with in a week after that. If there is still not enough advanced interest we can attempt to get some track time once we arrive at the facility. Also, please don't feel obligated to race or even to bring your Porsche out into the salt infested roads. Just show up and have a drink and some appetizers or burger. If you haven't been to F1 Boston yet, check out their site at www.f1boston.com. Thanks all,

I am set to go. I havn't met most of you local floks but am looking foward to it.
Dave, thanks for doing the leg work on this. IMHO, It would be best to rent the track for a half hour than arive and drive. When you just show up, there can be a long wait before your track time and you can't even drink while your waiting. Its just a matter of numbers and commitment. -Brett Anderson |

I really hope to get enough interest to rent the track. I figure even if I can get 12 people interested in racing the price wouldn't be too bad. I'll keep you all posted.
Bob, this is only a karting track, so all you need besides some cash is a will to drive. Hope you can make it.

Bob, Just show up with cash (or credit), or pay Dave ahead of time if he wants you to. They loan you a driving suit, helmet, neck brace, and kart.
I have several friends (including several potential 914 converts) if we want to boost the numbers by a few. Your choice Dave. Let me know how the numbers stand as the date gets closer. -Brett |

Thanks Bander, I may need a few more from the looks of it, but I'm not sure. I'll see how many emails I get tonight and tomorrow. If I don't have enough people willing to pay upfront by tomorrow, I'll make one last plead for drivers. If there is enough, I'll need the money before next Wednesday so I can put a deposit on the track.

Well it's late Thursday; I stretched the deadline one extra day hoping for
some last minute stragglers, but none were found. I doubt that it's economically practical to rent the F1 track for just us. Stretching the number of replies to include some of the maybes and adding a couple of "offlist friends" I still don't have enough people to fill the track quota. The price per person would be the same or more for that 1/2 hour than it would cost to sign up for 3-4 individual races. I'm guessing on about $85 per person if we were to do it. The Gathering is still on and I'll make sure the facility holds a good portion of the bar for us. Once there, we can schedule some races and may still gat most if not all of the track to ourselves. That said, if the people interested want to step up to the $85 price (still not a bad deal as it does include a days license and 1/2 hour of racing) I'm game if you are. If I get more people than expected, I'll offer a refund of the difference on the day of the event. Let me know what you think, other wise I hope to sse as many Nor' Easters as possable. Thanks,

Yup, it's tomorrow night. I have to call the facility yet again to make sure they reserve a space for us, but it's atill on. Racing will be reserved individually, but that shouldn't be too bad. I'll post a proper update by noon EST.

Just a reminder, the meet is still on tomorrow night. I got a call back from the F1 Boston sales department and they said we should have no problems getting track time after 6:00 or so. There should also be sufficient room in the bar area for us to congregate. I figure we could take over the table area of the bar (to the right as you walk down the ramp) so we could get some appetizers or something. It sounds like the best time to arrive is around 7:30-8:00. That should help with the rush hour traffic and give everyone enough time to get there after work (for the lucky ones to still be employed).
Rich Herzog was gracious enough to donate a commissioned painting for the event. Does anyone have an idea on the best was to give this door prize away? I'll add to that one of my custom shirts or a helmet painting. Directions are at http://www.f1boston.com/general_info.htm#dir Hope to meet a lot of you there,
