Looking to buy my first 914. Need help, please!
I'm searching CL and I came across one that reads:
NOTE first gear dropped the key way and needs to be put back in tranny, I have the keyway. 2nd, third, fourth gear and reverse work well. I'm wondering how much time and money would go into that. Thanks in advanced! |

Not that hard to take out the motor & tranny.
Fixing the tranny yourself is not that expensive. The trick is... that once you start, where do you stop. If you are looking to flip the car, then fix the tranny and selling, it is possible to make money. However, usually, your time and repair cost limit profits. If you are looking to keep the car, then its worth reviewing and checking the car for rust. That's the really killer for the car.

Dropped the key way? I don't know what that means.
Worst case, they spun 1st gear off the mainshaft. The easiest fix is a new transmission. --DD
