Access plate under Master Cylinder?

Is the access panel that protects the master cylinder area really need? My '74 doesn't have one. I want to drive my '74 without it until I can find a good deal one.

What is the going/fair price for one?

Hey ya man, This is cool I had an old rusty one that was so bad when I put in the sand blaster it looked like swiss cheese. Luckily I had a guy make me one out of aluminum. fit is perfect! and looks great!!!! Got carried away and shined it up a bit and clear coated the thing. Cost was a good lunch at OUTBACK.
