timing scale
mrandall....I thought that was what you meant but didn't want to sound like an idiot if I was wrong. I have seen several of those on type IV engines in VW Vans, but have yet to come across one in a 914. I actually do have one on a '78 2.0 bus engine that I could sell for $10. It should be the same, but you may want to check with someone to see if there were any big timing differences across the type IV 2.0 range.
Thanks, Mark |

Mark,
I confirmed last night that the BUS scale '72 to '81 will be the same as my 912 E. I will take the one you have.. I sent you an email with my info, let me know where to send the $$. Thanks.

Scott,
The VW number is 021 119 249E. My Local VW dealer said it will be 3 weeks or more before they would have any (if they could order it). They really did not want to fool with me, so I am going this route, where people actually care about keeping these wonderful automobiles on the road... If you can get a new one, I would happily buy both (yours and Marks)... Right now, one in hand gets me back on the road. My points are so bad I don't trust them further than the end of the driveway ![]() Mike

Steve,
Is the one pictured for sale? If so, I am interested. I will be on vacation for the first part of the week, but will look for your reply on Thursday. Mike

My 75 has one as well. How do you use it? Is it just a reference to tell you what to set the timing at?

Steve,
I just got back... I have the scale from Mark ![]() Tod, I am not a 914 owner, I have a 912E. On the 912 the engine is very "viewable" from the back, and so timing is done using that scale as a reference at 3,000 RPM. I understand from this board that when timing the 914 you use the hole at the top and time based on that. Mike

I've got one
Mike-
I've got one (Steve's actually, from the picture). I don't think I can use it as I intended on my 914. I hate to keep a Porsche off the road. Do you still need one? $10 + shipping (should be cheap) if you need it. |
