1970 Porsche 914-6 - Project - $11000
Saw this on Craigslist. Looks like quite an extensive project if someone is looking to get into something like this. I have no affiliation........just passing it along!

He had it for as long as I remember. Very fun car. Some time ago, he took it apart and began restoring it. He pulled the engine, put it on a stand. Everything was taken off the body and disassembled and primered for paint. He never got it all back together. I had thought I would make it a project of mine to restore it slowly over the years. I know how rare these cars are. I have read that in 1970, only 2200 were imported to the U.S. This is not a conversion from the 4 cylinder VW motor. It is the real deal, just unassembled. I have realized that I will probably never put this car back together (although I have everything except the shift rod and sheet metal for the engine bay..). I recently started a family and just cannot see putting the money and time into the car. It's a major after thought these days. I did get as far as pulling out all of the interior, replacing the door panels and carpet kit. I put a replacement rear trunk cover on. Sanded the puppy down and treated minor rust areas. I also picked up a replacement transaxle and many other smaller parts. The engine grill cover has been replaced. I also bought replacement rear brake light lens covers. I wanted to replace the driver's seat, which is eroded in spots. The passenger seat cushion (the back rest is built into the vinyl firewall cover) also needs to be recovered. The engine still has compression, I turn it periodically. It needs a rebuild. It was rebuilt years ago, but never ran, so I wouldn't just slap it in without going through and replacing all the seals and rings atleast. Make no mistake, this Porsche is a project for sure. But for how rare a 914-6 is (the only 914's Porsche actually bothered to put a flat 6 911 motor in,) it is a definately a collector's prize. I have seen conversions go for 5 to $12k. This is no conversion. The market is bare on these Porsche's, as they are so hard to find. I have seen restored and rebuilt 914-6's go for $25k to 38k. I am willing to listen to REASONABLE offers. Please post the VIN number, it will be visible along the driver's windshield post, and should be 914043_ _ _ _. Also, please take some good quality pictures of the car and post them here. This is a good place to get attention for this car. Good luck with the sale; I am sure someone is going to want this project.

For what it's worth, seems to me to be a pretty decent deal if it is all there and straight. IF I were doing another GT recreation project I think this is something I would consider starting with. Hard to do justify doing GT projects on solid cars these days. Peter |

Yeah, sold. I was trying to work a deal for the Mahle wheels in exchange for my 5 fuchs and some cash. Oh well...
