Project: 1970 914 Semi-tube frame race car
1970 914 Semi-tube frame race car. Project for the mechanically inclined. The car experienced an engine bay fire that damaged the plastic, CIS air box, wiring etc. The engine was shut down prior to the fire breaking out and is undamaged. I bought with the intent of bringing it back to its glory and can't find the time to finish it. I have cleaned up much of the damage from the fire and accumulated numerous parts. The fire was caused by a leaking fuel rail. At a DE event, the driver noticed fuel spraying on her backside. The car is an open cockpit. Driver pulled over, saw the problem and shut the motor down. The fire erupted afterwards. The motor was properly built with a turbo with spacers to lower the compression. RHP was ~450HP. If I were to rebuild it I would switch to carbs, remove the spacers etc.
The details: Semi tube frame chassis. Open cockpit with roll cage. 1600 lbs as I recall. Engine 911-6/2.7L, I was told the engine has 5-6 hrs since being rebuilt. K27 turbo (not sure how much is usable), top of pistons machined, heads ported, new uides, 911S nikasil cylinders, custom machined spacers for proper compression, 5 gal dry sump, fuel surge tank, 935 cams, case dowel pinned, spare CIS. Trans: 914 side shifter. 5 spd. Wheels: 12 x 16 duralite front, 14 x 16 duralite rear. New control arm bearings. Misc parts. Newer Goodyear slicks. Fuel cell. Additional pics available on request.. $3,500/OBO. Call /email me for details and questions. Rob Bernard @ 303-503-7486, email: das86turbo@comcast.net ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
