Porsche Crest I need help with steering wheel info.

I've got a VDM leather steering wheel p/n 914 347 088 10 date 9/69 also stamped VW. Is this a 914-6 wheel by chance? It does have the countersunk holes on the backside of the hub for 911 cancel ring fitment. Can't say I've seen the "088" stamp before. Any help would be great.

Both the -4 & -6 steering wheels had the 911 rear boss until late 1970. The -4 wheel were hard plastic and the -6 wheels were leather covered. That was the general rule but with Porsche there were always exceptions. The dealers did lots of mix and match stuff.

PET shows:

914.347.803.10 Plastic -4 wheel
914.347.806.10 Leather -6 wheel

088? You got me on that one. Ask over at the 914World.

looks to me like the numbers were restamped at some point. maybe by the factory, maybe someone else. I'm not used to seeing a vw logo on a vdm wheel. early date code. seems unusual. I don't know everything, someone out there might know what this all means. cool wheel.
