I've only had my car to 125 mph. I think thats all it will do.

I stop a 150 mph in my vr4. ( it doesn't want too. )

Mine is a 1983 NA

I've had my 951S upt to 163MPH she had a lot more but I can never find a piece of road straight enough or with a small enough amoutn of traffic on it to get it maxed out.

Also had my S2 up to 155 when I had that car.

I remember going a tad over 145 with my modified 84 2.5 NA, but after turning it back to near stock, it wont push over 137 indicated mph.

140 mph flat to the floor, on pump gas. Getting ready to try some avgas to see if it helps. Come to think of it, that was when it was bone stock, and I've played with it since then, so who knows.

163 MPH on the street/public road? You are braver than Rambo. Aren't there occasional bumps that could toss you and your car into the woods?

As to the other post about using avgas, doesn't that have a tendnecy to burn up the engine, valves at least? I think I'm recalling correctly, otherwise everyone would do it all the time because I have heard it can provide a significant power boost.

I got my 84 to 130 and still had a little more to go...
Watch out, AVGAS usually had lead which will wreak havoc with the cat converter.

The late 944 NA speedo is optimistic by 10% exactly at 100mph, and the early is within 1%, don't know if this applies to 951 or S2. The reason to this was the redesign at 85.5, Porsche didn't get any hp out of the engine after lots of mods (to increase reliability, and decrease maintenance really, but still) but wanted the owners to feel as if it was actually a faster car...

I was actually thinking about 5 gallons of avgas then filling the tank the rest of the way with 93 octane pump gas. As for the cat. converter, it kinda got lost when I had the 2.5 inch flowmaster exhaust put on.
I have to agree with the pilot, fly low, no bumps, and under radar! I'm not saying go out and endanger yourself or others, but, if you get a chance, go out and fill the prescription for speed that Herr Doktor ordered, and REALLY see what Porsches are like in their element. You won't regret it!

Thats fast, maybe my engine needs to be rebulit.

As for avgas it will only help if you have the compression needed to stop detonation of high compression with the time advanced. That's a Fact.
As for speed everyone knows a good place to let it go. Me, its on a road less traveled and is very smooth. ( why own a car like this if you don't drive it! )

My 2 cents

I've never gone over 110 mph in my 83 944. It has more left and it feels very stable but I'm too afraid of speeding tickets (or worse, reckless driving tickets). I'd rather hit the curvey backroads and do some 2nd-3rd gear sprints.

I just got arrrested in virginia for going 136, I have 95mph written on the ticket, I'm going to court on May 30th, I'll let you know, I'm going to juvenile criminal court, so it might be serious, but I've asked my lawyer, he says since it wasn't in my homestate, they can only take my privelage to drive in VA, and they probably wont even do that, just a (big) fine. Again I'll let you know.

Ahmet,
Juvenile court rules, did you know that you can have your record expunged after you turn 18! Also nobody can get into a juvenile offenders file after they turn 18 if the file has been sealed.

Anyway they probably aren't going to do anything major to you, if they were going to they would have arrested you.

When I was 18 (damn am I getting old) I got caught doing 103 in a 55 and I did get arrested, still all I had was a $1200 lawyer bill (ex cop, I love that guy) and a $500 fine to pay cause I pled youthful offendorship staus. Oh and I had to get my car out of impound ($60) and I had to go to court like 5 times.

Careful with your speed claims. The speedometers are wrong in 944T's. Mine, with the stock 225/50-16 wheels registers over 7% high. A 225/60-16 corrects the error.

How's this:

The speedo was reading 163 MPH in my 951S, Also I did this on my 17" wheel and tire combo which is just slightly larger in diameter than stock.

Also how do you know that your speedo reads high?

A 225/60-16 tire/wheel combo stands 1.77 inches taller than the 225/50-16. You need a big correction to get the speedo correct.

A taller wheel/tire combo than stock, will decrease the reading, not increase it, I recall reading about the speedo in a book named "944, the gold portfolio" which is really a collection of magazine articles about this car. (more than 100 of them) I remember that one of them tested the top speed by radar, as well as the 0-60 times, and concluded that the late type speedo was off by around %10, starting at less distortion at 40, increasing to around %10 at 100, I'm not sure how far it'll be off by over that, not even sure if the turbo speedo is off at all, they also noted that the early speedos were within 1%.
