1984 Porsche 944 timing belt question

Hello!
Just did a timing belt change on our 1984 non Turbo 944. First time. Everything went as well as expected, a few hiccups but nothing major. My question is that after reassemble, tried to start car. Noticed that the battery was draining and idle rpm was around 200. If I press accelerator down, stumbles a bit - but around 2000 rpm, runs well. I believe that the old alternator belt is turning alternator sufficiently. Would that make sense? Be kind - I am a newbie!

The alternator belt is not tight enough.

Adjust it using the factory tool and the factory settings.

First of all idling at 200 RPM is way off, idle should vary between 800 to 950 RPM,900 RPM will be rigth on.So 200 RPM wasn't fast enough to charge your battery. If the alternator belt is in good shape & tighten properly & your car is idling around 900 RMP & still doesn't charge the battery, then the Voltage Regulator...see pic... situated at the rear of the Alternator might be the problem.
BTW idling at 2000 RPM is way to higth .

mtojek,
Congrats on your first belt job! The first time is always the most challenging. If your idle was fine prior to conducting the TB change, take some time and double check that everything you disconnected is back to whence it came... There could be an electrical connector not secured or a vacuum hose loose. It's good practice to spend some time and give everything a good once over before changing out components.
