Plastic cover inside sump

Hi. I removed the sump today to replace the rod bearings, in doing so the plastic cover inside the sump must have caught the oil pick up and it snapped off. Is this an issue where I have to replace this cover or will it be ok without it? It’s a lightly driven road car, not for the track.
Thanks.

the pick up may not have been the culprit as they do fatigue and break. 2nd on replace

I used to have a 72 T with MFI. loved that sound but hated fighting rust.
