Investment?
Just curious as to how much everyone has invested in their car? I've had my 944 two years and this is what I've done:
Engine rebuild, radiator, condensor, water pump, belts, plug wires, 4 tires, updated wheels, wheel bearings, brakes, windshield, paint, AC retrofit, recovered seats, upgraded stereo, alarm, steering rack, struts, engine mounts, performance exhaust, and a few other minor things. The grand total (including purchase price) is around $20,000. One thing leads to another, and before you know it, you've spent a small fortune on restoration. Could have had a 951 or even an older 930 for that much! |

I've had about 14-15k in my car, since I bought it about 2-2.5 years ago...
However, I've gotten about $4 of it back, by selling performance mods I've put in the car back. Some of them are on this board too... Well, anyway, as we speak, the car hasn't cost me more than $9k or so, in 2+ years, so I'm not in too deep, and will actually upgrade to a 951 sometime early next year. Well, I bought my car in september last year for 3,300. It was a great deal... the paint was sorta bad, and there was a few dents in it. The interior had some tears in the tan leather. So, after being in a little fender bender, I spent about 2500, or 3000 in paint and just to get the body back to mint condition, better in fact as the paint is custom... Then i've spent about a grand on some mechanical work, but am soon to be selling the car. I have put in about what the car is worth.

I bought mine in May for 3,700.
So far, I replaced the clutch, new timing, and the an oil changed for $1,380. Repacked CV joints, 20 bucks for grease. I put in a new slave and master cylender, $69 and $74. My car is in desprate need for a new paint job, but that will have to wait till the spring. The next thing I am going to do is get the seats recovered, that will cost $100 each seat. ------------------ There is no substitute, Tim '83 944 |
