What size bolt?...and what's the name of that bolt?
On an '83 944 (automatic), what size socket do you need for the splined style bolt on the axles? I need to get one off to replace a CV boot, but I don't have the right tool for the job. If I knew exactly the size, I could go to Sears maybe and find it and buy one. Please help
And hey, by the way...I just changed the trans fluid (I just bought the car about a week ago, so I don't know the history of it) and I found about a half inch size blob of metal shavings trapped in the filter when I replaced it. How many metal shavings is bad news? Of course, no metal shavings would be ideal, but if nobody has changed the fluid in say, a couple years...would that be an acceptable amount to find??????

The socket is a 12 point 8mm allen. Snap-On calls it a triple sqare socket. Search this forum for cv joint replacement. There are ways to do this, and ways not to because the bolt strips very easily. This topic has been covered in great detail, and there is some great info already listed. If you can't find it, post a reply to this message and we'll help you out. As for the tranny, I don't have any experience with auto's in these cars.
