I would love to have a 951 would any one like to race me for titles, I would like to see how a high performance car would do next to a high perfomance bike.
Has anyone tryed the supercharge kit for the n/a, that sounds like a plan, but can the drive trane handle the added power?

Do you have any idea how much money it would take to get a car to run 10's in the 1/4. I do know some hondas that run 9's though. So you can go race them if you want. Porshes aren't drag cars, they are track cars. And they do best on track that have BOTH right and left hand turns.

Well, I finally got to do my first real race on Saturday (I've been hoping for this for quite awhile). I've always had little non SS non Z28 Camaros, or Non GT Mustangs try to race me in my 951, and those were just pathetic. But Saturday, I got to line up with a 5.0 Mustang (Mid 90s model). I figured he'd dog me off of the line, and beat me...I just didn't know how quick the 951 can be. Straight off the bat we were neck and neck until 70Mph, when, low and behold the 951 showed to be a superior performer in the upper range speeds. I took him...and let me tell you, it's a great feeling. I've driven and seen raced S, and S2s... and to me, it's not worth owning a sports car if you can't beat those Mustangs

My two cents

Mark

I'll give a good reason to own a 944 that can't beat a mustang: You can pick up chicks in a 944 N/A just as easily as in a 951 because these cars look basically identical, and the babes only care if the car looks nice, not what HP is has. Sorry, I just have a one track mind.

But I'll admit my ears perk up whenever I hear about an affordable supercharger that might work on my 944 N/A.

Harp, though you might be kidding, I have a very good case for the NA 944...

They're a lot more agile, and 100s of lbs lighter than both the turbo, and the S2...

Agility my friend!

Looking at the #s, the 944 is faster through the slalom, but that could change quite easily with wider tires in the front of (understeering) a 944 turbo or S2.

OK, I could make this TOO long, but I'll tell you this, in the past 8 months or so I've been auto-xing (religiously), I've NEVER gotten beat by another front engined Porsche, I've raced the car in C-Stock, AND C-street prepared. (in all honesty, the car wasn't totally within rules, it didn't have a thermostat, AND it's got a sport clutch, so yes, I'm cheating. Then again I did race against a modified 944 Turbo, that I was ahead of, BY 2.7 SECS! Which is the closest any front engined has gotten).

Coincidance? Bad drivers against me? Luck? Well, 2.7 secs is a lot, and I do race with street tires, against people with slicks... I got second place at regional finals, how'bout that? (beaten by a miata, almost emberassingly, nothing against the miata, don't get me wrong).

Now you might say, the 944 line isn't competitive, well, the last 2 (or was it 3) year's winner has been driving a 968, this year, he's still got the 68, but races a boxter S in Super Stock... So there you go, these cars are great, and a car doesn't have to pass the $20 test to be fun, as illustrated. (My car still does 0-60 in the mid 7 sec range though, driven moderately agressively).

Hey Harp. Picking up chicks in a 944? My girlfriend absolutely HATES my baby, er... 944. I guess you can't really blame her; I spend much more time and money on the car than I do on her. Hell, she won't even drive it. Has anyone found a way to keep both car and woman happy?

It's a thing some chicks get, and some just don't...

My ex used to hate the car, my current one loves it! (too bad I don't think I like HER that much anymore).

Cleaning the car out really good, washing/waxing/vacuuming (I do mean a well done cleaning, not sloppy), and going for a ride to a cafe for brunch, using some twisty/empty roads help. Make sure there's NO music, roof is off, and the windows are down.

You COULD use the car in case of an "emergancy" (she forgot to pick up nail polish from the mall), and act like you're trashing the car for what she needs (when you're just having some fun drifting around turns).

Ofcourse this is advice from an 18 year old, so WATCH OUT!

BTW, on a different note:

An auto-x is an AWESOME place to meet hot chicks who understand. However watch out, even those who appear alone, (most of them) have their boyfriends who couldn't make it because off a bigger race! :P

please dont get me wrong I love my 944 and agree with 1.2Gs It just bothers me a little when you have kids with out a clue as to what a well made car is for, FUN push yourself and your car will be fast. When I race someone its how ever they want to I will ride faster then a car on any road.I'm much better on a bike then a car,I'm sure any of you could show me allot about racing cars, I just can't aford it.
peace.

I wasn't kidding at all. I have a 1988 N/A which I absolutely love. My girlfriend loves it too. In fact she loves it so much that she'd rather have us drive around the country roads all day with it, rather than have us go back to my place for a different kind of fun. Go figure, I can't win sometimes. But hey, at least I have a mint Porsche 944 so life must be OK.
