What is this..?
Hey guys. Started taking apart the top half of the car and labeling all the wires. Everything was matching up great with the Porsche Manuals until I came accross this thingy.
What is it? It's located right below altenator and is connected to an air line. There are two wires comming out of it, one brown, the other green/red. Thanks for any help! -Tony |

That part is called "Electric Air Valve" and is part number
944 606 215 00 and mounts to the rear bracket of the air filter housing.

FLA, is FR Wilk right in that it works with the A/C sys. I've replaced my filter box with a cone and this valve sits out in the open just like ruechaos' pic. Can I remove it if I no longer have a working A/C sys? Thanks

That part is an Auxilliary Air Valve. It opens when you turn the A/C on to compensate for the additional mechanical load of the compressor.
This part is not on later cars (85.5 and later) because the late cars have an Idle Stabilizer.
