Spring Brand and Types
My 944 (The way I bought it) seems to sit a bit lower than stock. both front and rear. The rear has Bilstein shocks on it, and I assume the torsion bar was re-indexed (It's at about 24"
The front fender measures about ~24 1/2" from the ground. I think stock is about 25.5. The spring itself is black, as well as the strut - and I can't seem to find any writing or marking on it. Any ideas what brand of springs the previous owner put on here to get that ride height? Unfortunately, I don't have many records for this car, so I'm trying to piece together what my set-up is. Thanks, |

Literally impossible to answer. The platform is 46 years old, with dozens of factory and aftermarket springs available.
The factory used paint dots on some springs, and that information is in the PET.

That's kinda what I figured. Just curious.
Cool that it's already lowered for me though - and tastefully so! |

hard to identify the spring but for a long time the most common lowering spring was made by Weltmeister. it would typically drop the car around 1.25" from stock but it varied.
is the spring coiled very tight at one end and further apart at the other end? that's how Welt made theirs. you may find a faint white paint mark saying "SP-200" or "SP-250" somewhere on the spring which would identify the spring rate if it is indeed a Weltmeister. i bought Welt 200# lowering springs in about 2006 and still have them on - they have an SP-200 identifier on them. |

Thanks! This is great info - I'll clean them off this weekend and try to look for any branding or dots or markers.
