Is short shift linkage worth the effort? 88 944 S

The car shifts well enough but have enjoyed short shift in other Porsches although in my 996 it created a problem shifting into reverse which was fine before installing short shift. I don't want to install one in my 944 and be diissapointed.

You will be disappointed. Shorter throws imply increased force to make the throw.

A well adjusted and well lubricated 944 shifting assembly is just right.

But it would be worth looking at your shifter with the boot off. The pin that acts on the shift rod takes a barrel shape, bringing slop. If it’s bad you can replace or fix it. I saw some one once drilled it out and replaced it with a bolt, tack-welded into place

The best answer is only944's shifter. For only $71, it fixes Porsche's design error which leads to wear out slop in the shifter. Porsche could have drilled one hole, threaded it and put in a Zerk fitting, then added it to the maintenance schedule. But they didn't.
